Wintery Mix

Southeastern NC got its first snow of the year over the weekend and Mother Nature did not fail this season. While this northerner-turned-southerner moved specifically to get away from the cold, snow, and ice, I found myself anticipating the frosty, snowy precipitation. In fact, when every county around us started to get snow, and little old Wilmington did not, I was definitely a bit upset. The main reason for moving south was not to entirely avoid snow altogether; it was to only have snow once in a while, on occasion, and perhaps only once or twice the entire winter. It's the difference between having three full months of snow on the ground and cold, biting winter mornings, and having three full days of snow with a windchill that dips into the teens and 20s at night. It's so great to wake up to almost a foot of snow on the ground and have it completely melted away a few days later.

For the winter months, business is always slower than normal, so for the past few years, I've dedicated that time to providing a discount for school programs. This entices teachers to get me into their classroom and teaching about our wintery migrators or how melting ice has shifted sea level rise. I don't avoid the cold, and I still pack up my car, bundle up, and head out to a school, especially since I provide in-school field trip options. So from November through February, I chose the one winter tree that blooms to provide a 10% off discount to all schools who request a program during those months. My "Holly Days" discount gives schools who may have low funding an opportunity to still take advantage of the engaging programming. With only 8 days remaining available on the calendar, I'm reaching out to area schools once again to entice them to get me into their classrooms this winter. While they are out for snow days today and tomorrow, they can plan ahead to the upcoming weeks with Marine CSI on their minds.

From now until February 28th, I will take 10% off the final cost to any school when they schedule a program with Marine CSI for THIS MONTH only. It's my way of providing great educational programming, while giving back to a community that might not otherwise been able to take advantage of what I offer to area schools.
